Domain name parking for profit

If you are new to domain names, and domain parking, this page is a how-to instruction set to get you started in this profitable, and largely passive income stream. If you already own some domain names, and just want to park them and get paid, then you can skip to step 2.

Step 1: Register your domain names. If you do not own any domain names, you will need to register one or more to do this. And yes, there is some expense involved, although it is very minimal (Under $10 per domain if you use GoDaddy). Your first step is to identify the keywords you want to use, and check the availability of domain names you can use those keywords with.

If you are buying new domains, a good way to go is to check for the most entered search engine keywords and then either register a domain using them, or to look for generic domain names that those keywords will fit with.

To monitor the most popular search engine keywords, try these sites:
Search Engine Watch
Zeitgeist (Google)

Once you have settled on one (or more) domain names, the next step is to pick a domain name registrar and check the availability of those domains. I use GoDaddy exclusively for my domain needs, and if you ever deal with other registers before you try GoDaddy, you'll discover why. It doesn't matter whether you register your domains as .com, .org, .net, .biz etc., But some domain extensions are cheaper than others (.biz domains are about $1 cheaper than .com, .org or .net domains, and .infos are currently on sale at GoDaddy for $1.99 each.)  As soon as you register your domain (s), you are ready for part 2.

Step 2: Park your domain (s). Now it is time to decide where you are going to park your domain (s). There are several programs that offer incentivized domain parking, including GoDaddy. The difference between them is their focus, whether they are free or charge and the percentage of income your domain produces that they pay you.

For instance, Sedo will park your domain for free, but their primary focus is on domains that the owners want to sell. They offer discounts on the sale procedure, but pay a much lower percentage on earnings generated from just parking the domain.

GoDaddy focuses on the parked domain earnings and pays a higher percentage, but charges you to park your domain with them.

GoldKey focuses on the domain parking earnings for your domain, parks them for free and still gives you the option to sell the domains. Our research shows that GoldKey not only pays the highest returns, but also has the shortest payment time (net 15). This means that whatever you have earned during the month, you will get paid the 15th. of the next month.

I have chosen to focus on GoldKey myself, and the rest of this page will focus on how and what you can do using GoldKey's services. The screenshots are from GoldKey also. Most of the instructions should also work on other hosts, but I can not guarantee that.

Click here to register with GoldKey. When you register with GoldKey, you need to add your domain names as part of the registration. If you leave this part empty, your application will be rejected. You can always add more domains later - simply log in to your GoldKey account, and click on 'Domains' (screenshot). Then click on 'Add domains' (screenshot). You can add one domain, or several, as long as each domain is on a separate line, as shown in the screen shot. If you are only entering one domain, go ahead and select your theme when you enter it. If you are entering several domains at once, ignore the theme for now (you can change the theme for each domain later). Once your domains are accepted by GoldKey, you will need to log back in wherever you registered your domains, and set your names servers (DNS) to point to GoldKey's servers. This sounds more complicated than it really is. I will walk you through the procedure at GoDaddy, it will be similar at other registrars also.

Setting the nameservers:

  • Log into your account at GoDaddy.
  • Select 'Domains' (screenshot)
  • Select 'My domain names' (screenshot)
  • Select the domains to park (screenshot)
  • Select 'Nameservers' (you can choose several domains at once if you are setting the same information for each one) (screenshot)
  • Enter the GoldKey (or other) nameserver information (screenshot)
  • Logout

Step 3: Promote
Now you need to promote your new parked domains! If you have your own website, then you should cross link your new parked domains to your website. For instance, each of my domains above is linked to this page. Set up portal pages (such as these) and add them to your website, so the search engine spiders will include them when your website is crawled next.I also have my links page on this website linked to several of my partners domain pages. (screenshot 1) (screenshot 2). Submit your new domains to the search engines.
