Payment Processors:

Payment processors are the ‘middle man’ between your bank and Internet programs.

It’s important to remember that although they appear to function much like online banks, they are not, and they are also not insured. Your funds are only as secure as the payment processor they are in.

Payment processors are easier to keep up with than online programs, but they also come and go. Right now there are around 10 established ones, but I have only included six on this page for now. They are listed in the left sidebar in alphabetical order, and my three favorites are highlighted below.

  • eGold is now the dominant payment processor for online money making programs, since PayPal changed their Terms of Service (TOS) and excluded ‘paid to’ programs and MLM opportunities, and StormPay committed suicide. So you may as well just go ahead and open an eGold account.

  • AlertPay is listed as number 2 because they offer a function that the other payment processors don’t – the ability to fund our AP account directly from eGold, and the ability to withdraw directly to eGold. Since we can tie AP directly to our checking account (like PayPal), it is quick and inexpensive to fund AP from eGold, and then withdraw directly to the bank, and vice versa. AlertPay also claims not to ‘freeze’ accounts.

  • PayPal is the longest running processor, has very reasonable fees (free for personal accounts), a very generous debit card arrangement (free to Premier/business account holders), and good security. I prefer using my PayPal debit card over credit cards on the ‘net. But it’s your choice.

Some of the other players out there include INTGold, NetPay, and EMO.

  • Password security:

Make sure all of your passwords exceed 8 characters, and combine upper and lower case letters and numbers. And NEVER use your browsers 'Remember my login information?' (or similar) feature for those accounts! NEVER use the same password for more than one payment processor (actually, you shouldn't use the same password in other programs either, for what should be obvious reasons...)

  • Account security:

eGold specific: You can securely enter or change your pswd without using the SRK at all. Simply open notepad (automatically included with Windows, but any text file editor will work), and type your password (or new password) into it and save it under a filename no one who had access to your computer would think to look under (and it should go without saying, but I'll say it anyway - do not include the program name or the word password or pswd in the file). (Use momsfavoritecookierecipe.txt, or some other innocent name) and remember the filename yourself. When you are ready to login to eGold, just open the notepad file, highlight your pswd and copy it (either right click, and click 'copy' or use ctrl-c. Then paste it into the pswd field at eGold. Has been working for me for literally years now.

Make sure your security settings are set to watch for changes in your Operating System(OS)/browser and Internet Provider# (IP#). If you want to be extra paranoid, open a second eGold account also, with a different password, and when you receive a payment in your original account, transfer it to your second (secret) account. Even if someone is able to hack your original account, all they could get would be the eGold acct# you transferred to and batch number. Assuming you use a more secure pswd and settings for the second account, hacking it would be extremely hard.

And just to note: very few eGold accounts are actually 'hacked' (except for people who pick bad passwords (like your name and birth year for instance). Almost all accounts that are broken into are 'phished' instead, using email or bogus websites. As has already been stated millions of times all over the web (and on every payment processor's website - NEVER access your account via an email link. Memorize the legitimate urls. Watch for the padlock in the lower right corner. Make sure you are on a secure site (https vs http). It's really not that hard to keep your accounts secure.

To use the notepad method with several payment processors, just save all the payment processor's urls in the same new folder (Mine are in a subfolder of my Business Tools folder, labled Payment processors), then enter the passwords into your mystery notepad file in the same order that the payment processors are saved in your favorites file.
